The Ocean Heard It First

Flood Tide zines are a series of perzines of different mediums by Nish(any/all), a Black msagaji/lesbian. I am lover first, of many things, but especially zines, citrus, tea, squirrels, good chaos, the arts and sitting with my own curiosities of life and what this existence thing is all about. When I’m not working, at home, or with a friend, you can certainly find me by the ocean as it is my peace place. Communing with the water is an important personal ritual and Flood Tide, as by the name, is guided by the tides, or the intensity of emotion and human experience that is reminiscent of an incoming rising tide. The courage to share these straight-from-journal-to-zine stories of my experience living has stemmed from time by the water. On days when life has felt very jarring, other people’s stories of living and survival have held me. Similarly, I hope these zines always sit at people’s tables, and that they offer some form of ease. Don’t forget, the ocean heard it first.
